The art of bitching out

OK, it’s halloween weekend, and what am I doing? Sitting at home. Sure, I went out to eat at the Grit, had a couple beers at the Go Bar, but I was done with all of that by 9:30. Meghan went out to see Saw 2. What am I doing now? Drinking another beer and screwing around on the computer. Part of me is quite happy doing that. The other part is pissed. Charlie and Erin are having a halloween party tonight. I should be there having fun. I couldn’t do it though. Why? Easy. I don’t have a costume. I would feel like a chump being the only person there with no costume. I even thought about putting on some of meghan’s clothes, just so I wouldn’t feel out of place.

Instead I’m here getting slowly toasted. I decided to drink the last of my Duvels, and they are quite good.

Busy

Well, Meghan’s brother Bobby got married this past weekend to Heather. It was a lot of fun. That’s actually such an understatement it just looks stupid. We got to see a lot of the relatives, and there was much drunken debauchery. I have hundreds of pictures as well, but I need to find a good way to get them on this website. I think I’ll devote some time to that next week.

And if that wasn’t enough fun, I’m going to Dothan this weekend to hang out with my brother and mom. She’s retiring from her job of almost 20 years. So we’re having a little celebration. Plus it’s my grandmother’s birthday.

It’ll be fun, but I wish to hell I could get some rest. I didn’t get to relax once this past weekend. That shit will catch up to me at some point.

Meghan is going with me to Dothan, so that will be fun. She’s also going to be in Atlanta Thursday and Friday for some teacher conference, so I think I’m going to go do something Thursday night. Any ideas on what to do?

Charter DVR FAQ

I ordered the DVR service from Charter this past weekend. I had to basically help the tech install it since he didn’t really know what he was doing. So after he left, I did some looking and found this FAQ online that helped me find some answers.

So far, I love this service.

Cool site

Check out Shaving Stuff, a cool site devoted mainly to shaving, razors, and whatnot, but with many links to other cool websites.

Bone to pick

OK, as many of you know, there was a pretty big show this weekend. A famous band played at a wedding reception. REM. Maybe you’ve heard of them? So I guess it’s a rarity that the original 4 members get together and perform. It was a fairly newsworthy event. The AJC and CNN each ran stories about it.

I flip open this weeks Flagpole, hot off the presses, and not surprisingly, there is nary a mention of it. Stipe and company, the elephant in the room. Why would Flagpole not even mention it? It made the papers in other states fer crying out loud. My guess: REM is too popular, and therefore unhip to mention.

Why does that bother me? I dunno. It’s just that somebody conciously made the decision to withhold that bit of info. They had to think about it, and they decided to not put it in there. I’d like to know why. Just curious I guess.

One note, I did do some skimming of the magazine, so in theory I could have missed it. Especially if it was just a single sentence. Or sentence fragment.

Weekend update

Friday night I went out to the Gerbils show with Sonya. It was pretty fun. My fantasy of Jeff Mangum showing up and having an impromptu Neutral Milk Hotel reunion didn’t pan out, but watching Scott Spillane rock out is just as good. It’d been awhile since I’d seen him…he’s trimmed his beard way back. He still looks like he’s 60 though.

Saturday I totally bitched out of going to the Chasers at Tasty World. Sorry Sonya! I ended up going to see a History of Violence with Meghan instead. That movie kicked ass. I think I was the only guy in the theater cheering when the violence went down though. I’m pretty sure I embarrassed Meghan a little. I highly recommend this movie.

Sunday did a bunch of chores, got my oil changed, cleaned out the crap from the back of the jeep. Getting ready for a long week ahead.
