Hill O’Many Stanes, Scotland
Check out this Link to a list of British streets and towns with perverted names. I laughed a lot. Don’t you wish you lived on Butt Hole Rd, or here’s one for Legal Bitch, Moisty Lane…you can’t make this shit up. Take a gander
Friday night lights
Posted by Chris in Athens Night Life on August 27th, 2005
So we went out last night and it was fun. Met up with Brent and Sonya at the Taco Stand downtown. Brent’s ex GF works there and it was a little weird seeing her. She took off as soon as we walked in and didn’t come back till we were leaving.
After that we went to the Engine Room and drank some beers. Matt Head was there and I don’t know if it was his fault or not, but about that time the conversations became X rated. It was hilarious. Matt was hitting on Brent and had convinced himself that Brent was a closeted homosexual. Brent was fending him off quite well and it was very entertaining.
All in all, I had a good time. Meghan did too I think. I don’t think she’ll ever be the kind of person who likes to go downtown more than once every few weeks though. I hope she’ll come out with all of us more often!
One last note: On the way back to the car we came across a freak show parade of fuckers playing random instruments, waving placards, and marching around near Little Italy. Anyone know what the hell they were up to?
Shitty service
So over at the Day Jobs there’s a great topic on tipping, which has actually degenerated into a bitch session about tipping and shitty service in general.
I’ve mentioned in this space before that I am a ritual kinda guy. I love going to specific restaurants and bars on a regular basis. I didn’t just randomly select these places…I go there because I get consistently good service. The Grit, and Room 13 are my personal favorites. I know most of the Grit servers. They know I’m a nice guy, an easy table, and I tip very well. So I get great service. Room 13, they know I tip well, so I get strong ass drinks. It all works out. When I deviate from my rituals, things can get dicey.
Anyway, we’re going out Friday night to 283 bar. Not one of my regular spots, but I’ve never had a bad experience there. Meghan loves it cause the bartenders there know how to make a mean cosmopolitan. I just like the PBR served in a boot shaped glass. Last time I checked their jukebox has the Star Room Boys on it.
Google Talk
Google Talk, the much rumored Google IM service is now available. You should download it. It works perfectly with your Gmail account and Gmail contacts. Try it out and chat with me! The VoIP calls work pretty good too. my gmail account is cdriggers at gmail dot com. Hit me up!
Friday Happy Hour….mission is GO!
Friday after work, happy hour, Meghan and I will go downtown for some drinks. I was able to convince her to go. I think we should go to 283 bar, since she loves the cosmopolitans they serve there. And I can get a beer in a boot.
The last days of Caliente Cab
Went out tonight with Charlie, Erin, Brent, and their crew. Caliente Cab (not it’s real name anymore but nobody calls it the new name. They don’t call the Engine Room Room 13 either) is closing on the 20th and we picked tonight to have the last meal. It’s a crazy Cuban restaurant. I wish I had some pics to post of the location because it’s so awesome. Try to picture in your mind a collection of colorful shacks, red yellow and blue, surrounded by many potted plants, huge trees, old discarded cars, and one crazy ass parrot. Throw in some cuban sandwiches, fried plantains, and BYOB and you have yourself a piece of Athens culture.
They are closing to move across town, but with the old unique location gone, the magic will be hard to maintain.
Rumor is that the owner is opening a new restaurant/bar over in my neck of the woods on the East side. I’m all for that. I need confirmation people!
Dizamn
This past month has gone by in a complete haze for me. Switching jobs is a bitch! I’m glad all the drama is over. Just a quick summation:
The eBay Mac thing is over. The buyer received the shipment (although it was late) and everything is all good.
I’m on my 3rd week at my new job and everything is going great! I’m really looking forward to getting some experience with some of the Cisco VoIP systems I’ll be installing.
Thank god for Sirius satellite radio. Traffic has gotten much worse in the 4 or 5 years it’s been since I’ve had to commute to Atlanta from Athens. I’ve been addicted to listening to Outlaw Country, a great radio channel with the best DJ ever, Mojo Nixon!! What a freakin maniac. I love it.
My days aren’t much longer with my new commute…just different. But things are better. I’m making more money, doing some really challenging things (well, not yet, but soon!), and working with guys I worked with for years. It’s a good feeling.
Back in action
OK…the eBay thing. We had a deadbeat buy our laptop. We’ve dealt with that and moved on. I relisted the laptop and had a successful transaction, so the Mac is now out of my hands.
I completed the first week at my new job. New job, old company. Actually, that’s not exactly true. The name is the same, but Combest has completely changed. I think I’m really going to like it. The scope of work is completely different than what I’m used to. There aren’t many data customers, so I won’t really be doing much of the old server/workstation stuff. The one exception is that I’ll be more responsible for maintaining Combest’s network, and they need some upgrades and other work done. But I’ll be focusing on Cisco pretty much exclusively other than those things.
Right now I’m at Hot Corner getting ready to start studying for my CCNA test.
Tomorrow more of the same. Studying….
