The Apple has landed

My new Powerbook arrived today! I’ve spent the evening getting accustomed to the interface and generally screwing around with it. It’s pretty fucking sweet I must say.

It’s a 15 inch aluminum Powerbook. It is really light compared to my HP Nx7010. So far I’m enjoying the Apple experience. I’ve never really used any of the programs that come preinstalled on OS X. I’ve only ever worked with graphic design and Office programs. I’m determined to really start using this machine though. The only way to really understand and get comfortable with an OS is to jump in feet first and immerse yourself.

If anyone is reading this and has any suggestions for some useful apps or websites for OS X Tiger, drop me a line.

Dreams…

At Charlie’s party this weekend, we were all speculating about the upcoming ‘Surprise Guest’ at PopFest. Charlie thinks it might be Neutral Milk Hotel. I think that would be amazing, but highly unlikely. So we debated that for a while and I guess it fucked with me, because last night I had the most vivid and realistic dream. I was walking around the video game aisle at Best Buy. I walked outside to the parking lot, and it was full of people. There was a stage, and a huge screen. Playing on the screen was a black and white crazy commercial for the upcoming NMH reunion featuring a really huge black and white negative picture of the band. (Scott Spillane’s beard was fucking huge and black) Anyway they were talking to the crowd encouraging them to buy shit from BB and making sure the crowd was aware that they would be performing 10 times that day. Fucked up.

OK having said that, I don’t think it’ll be NMH. I hope they play again one day though. I have lots of emotion and memory tied up with that band and it’d be nice to see them play again.

Switching teams…

Well, I put in an order for a 15 inch G4 Powerbook laptop from Apple on Friday. I put a lot of thought into this decision. I’m the resident Apple technician at my office and we’re starting to get a lot of business from companies that use Apple computers. I’m sort of the Apple tech by default. I’m just the only one in the office who isn’t afraid to try something new. And since I’m the only one at the office who works on Apple, it makes sense for me to have one. Apple recently put out their new version of OS X and now would be a good time to learn it.

Plus, let’s face it. Apple is way cooler than Microsoft.

This site will soon be filled with notes and thoughts about my attempts to integrate this laptop into my office’s Windows 2003 server network. Apple has a fanatical following and I’m going to be on a mission to discover just exactly what the fuck the big deal is :)

Happy Birthday Charlie

We celebrated Charlie’s birthday yesterday by going down the river on some kayaks. The Sandbar. We didn’t use the Broad River Outpost this time. This place was a little different. They bussed us to the drop off and we rode down to the end where we parked. I liked that better. I hated waiting around for the short bus soaking wet.

So it was fun! We also ate at Zeb’s BBQ in Danielsville which was the shit. Not too many assholes on the river either.

So Charlie is 27 just like me. We’ve been friends for a long time. He and his wife Erin got married a couple weeks after Meghan and I. Go check out Charlie’s blog. He’s a fellow computer geek, with an emphasis on *nix systems.

New Music

I bought a cd the other day. I don’t buy very many cds. I tend to lose them or break them. But I couldn’t get this song out of my head. The song was “Holding Back the Year” by Lou Barlow. So I went to Schoolkids and bought the album. I know a little about Lou Barlow. He used to be in Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh. He was one of the guys in Folk Implosion. Anyway, he’s a big dork but has a great voice. I recommend the album. It’s called Emoh, and it’s got some great shit on it.

I know you guys want more Fat Janet stories. They’re coming I swear! I’ve just been way overworked. When I get home, the last thing I want to do is reminisce about The Horror. But I’ll do my best. I have to get this shit out of my system somehow.
