Something disconcerting has been happening to me for a while and now its really picked up the pace. Let me explain…
I’m from Dothan Alabama, a fact I’ve tried hard to forget in my life. I’ve lived all over the south, and I’ve even lived in Pennsylvania for a few years. But the fact is that my family is of the redneck persuasion. My mom is country as hell and my dad, though from west virginia, worked at the local country radio station in Dothan.
What’s happening is that i’m beginning to embrace my southern roots. I find myself listening to country music. And actually enjoying it. Ever since I got Sirius for my jeep I’ve been listening to this station that is all about old old old country music which is what my Dad used to play. So i’m having a bit of an identity crisis.
But it all boils down to quality. A lot of old country music has a simple no bullshit quality that I can dig. Not a lot of new music really comes across as sincere.
What is an Athens townie to do?
