Dammit

This is old news for anyone in Athens, but for those outside, you should know that Blue Sky coffee has closed for good. This was the first establishment I ever went into when I first moved here back in 96. I’m sad to see it go.

Blue Sky

It’s sad, but it’s like we’ve been introduced to the idea slowly. They stopped being a coffee shop but kept the name and kept serving coffee, and we got used to it. Then they closed. We already have our Hot Corner Coffee and Starbucks and ERC, so it should’t affect us, but it’s like a unique downtown institution has slowly passed away.

True enough. I used to work at ERC and so did my wife. I actually very rarely went to Blue Sky for coffee. It was usually iced chai and a cream cheese brownie. But for sentimental reasons, I’ll miss it. Like I said, it was the first place I ever visited in Athens. The Engine Room was the first bar I ever visited and I was very sad when it closed. I think it has had a more successful reinvention than Blue Sky though….
